Though lost power is no longer a problem for most Austinites, water issues continue: The city and county are still under a boil water notice for the foreseeable future, and a small number of households still have no water service at all.
To alleviate the situation, Austin/Travis County is opening ten water distribution sites around Austin on Sunday. All sites will provide free water on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last, and they’re intended for our most vulnerable populations without the access or means to purchase or boil water.
Each pickup will include one case of water. If you’re picking up in a car, open your trunk or make sure your backseat is unlocked. If you’re arriving in person, you’re encouraged to bring a rolling cart or some other way to help carry a case of water.

• Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park (12138 N. Lamar Blvd, 78753)
• Zilker Park (2301 Barton Springs Rd., 78746)
• Anderson High School (8403 Mesa Dr., 78759)
• Del Valle High School (5201 Ross Rd.)
The city would also like to remind you that conservation efforts are still needed during this crisis. Emergency water use restrictions put in place yesterday forbid Austin Water customers from the following:
• Use water for irrigation or testing of irrigation equipment
• Wash vehicles, including at commercial car wash facilities
• Wash pavement or other surfaces
• Add water to a pool or spa
• Conduct foundation watering, or
• Operate an ornamental fountain or pond, other than aeration necessary to support aquatic life
Additionally, Travis County Judge Andy Brown issued an order prohibiting vehicle washing services until Feb. 25.
