Special drive at Slaughter Lane next week

If you hadn’t noticed, there’s an election this year, and making sure you’re registered to vote is the first step in protecting your constitutional rights. Next Monday and Tuesday, the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane will be hosting A Change is Gonna Come, a pop-up and drive-thru voter registration event run by Buffalo Tree Presents.
Social activist group Buffalo Tree is dedicated to increasing social engagement and voter participation. In 2018, the Dallas-based group organized the Buffalo Tree Festival as the largest get out the vote event of the midterm elections, and followed that up in 2019 with #CareForTheCaravan, a four-city tour that raised thousands of dollars for migrants in need. With this event they’re bringing their A Change is Gonna Come tour van to Austin as part of their latest voter registration initiative. It will be parked at the Alamo Slaughter Lane (5701 Slaughter), 1-4pm, Monday Sept. 14 and Tuesday Sept. 15, and will provide safe, socially-distanced, outdoor voter registration. Remember to check your eligibility to register at www.votetexas.gov, and even check if you’re already successfully registered.
Here’s the full statewide tour (with more dates to come) for the van.
Sept. 12 and 19, 2-5pm: Dallas County Democratic Party (DCDP) HQ, 1414 N. Washington Ave, Dallas.
Sept. 14-15, 1-4pm: Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane, 5701 W. Slaughter, Austin.
Sept. 25 6-8pm: Good Records, 9026 Garland Road, Dallas.
