Why is fossil fuel phaseout not being discussed more seriously?

As the world’s eyes turn to Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), Austin-based Texas Impact/Texas Interfaith Power & Light is sending video dispatches from the conference to the Chronicle.


As COP28 gets in full swing in Dubai, there’s continued excitement about the adoption of a new fund for loss and damage – but increasing attention to the need for an equally decisive decision on fossil fuel phaseout. Bee Moorhead and Regina Banks muse about the mixed messages circulating on fossil fuels inside and outside the negotiation space, and assert that on this “elephant in the room,” people of goodwill should not actually disagree.
